I spent two years working as a nightlife photographer in San Francisco. During that time, I met hundreds of queer men who I was interested in documenting outside of the club scene. I had built an impressive body of work documenting them in bars and clubs, but it was influenced greatly by the cocktails, drugs, and disco. I wanted to slow things down and remove the façade thats inevitable in nightlife photography, and try to create a more honest body of work.
It is my hope that these images allow the viewer to access the essence of my subjects and, in addition, call into consideration ideas about queer masculinity and beauty.
This body of work was featured in a solo exhibition that took place in September 2009 at Electric Works Gallery, San Francisco, California.
